I have appreciated and been working with wood for most of my life! I truly began my days making Functional Art out of wood in 2007-08. I had been making furniture and other board base designs for years; as personal furniture, gifts, etc. In 2008, I had a really bad accident and was non-weight bearing on my right leg for 8 months. During this time, I set up the lathe that I had bought years before and started learning how to use it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In 2009, I was accepted into the Craftmen’s Guild of Mississippi<\/a> as a member in furniture and then in wood turning. In the years since, I have continued to practice these skills and over the course of 3 different Juries have earned the title of Fellow Member of the Guild. Being a member has afforded me the opportunity to get to know others in my craft and increase my skill level over the past years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n I create Functional Art that is meant to be used and remain beautiful. My favorite turning is of bowls. I also turn more bottle stoppers, pens, and other things that are more utilitarian but still just as beautiful. Check out my Shopping<\/a> page to see what I have available right now.<\/p>\n\n\n\n My specialty is Natural Edge bowls that still have the bark on – these bowls are beautiful and really challenging to turn. I have had folks at craft show balk at these because they have bought bowls from other turners that had used super glue to hold the bark on. I never do that!!! I allow most of my wood that is intended for bark edges dry most of the way before turning it, that way I know the bark is adhered to the wood! If it is not it either becomes natural edge or a run of the mill bowl. I always try to highlight unusual grain patterns and colors and every bowl is unique because there is no way to make each and every one of them the same.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
